1. Non Profit Audit
Professionals
Approximately 25 years ago Tom
Klein set out to create an accounting firm committed
to returning to the community some of the benefits
he had received and a firm that would serve non
profit organizations in a way no other firm does
or will do. This overall theme is still maintained
today.
2.
Availability
Beware of the accounting firm who
promise less fees for the same services. Many of these
firms are trying to fill "off season" work
schedules. This is fine until you need them in "tax
season." T.R. Klein & Company does not have
an off season but commits to you 12 months of each
year.
3. Quality
CERTIFIED
In June of 2006, T.R. Klein &
Company passed its quality review. A quality
review is like an audit of an accounting firm.
It involves another professional "auditing"
the firms controls for performing quality audits.
You, the client, are the beneficiaries of these
reviews because we have been confirmed by an outside
source, quality is maintained on each engagement.
Usually a management type letter is issued with
these reviews noting minor deficiencies in the system
of control. In less than 9% of the reviews performed
in Maryland does a firm receive no letter of comment.
T.R. Klein
& Company shares the company of the elite 9%
and did not receive a letter of comment.
4. Education
To maintain our quality service
we must keep-up-to-date. Each professional at T.R.
Klein & Company is required to participate in
a minimum of forty hours per year of continuing education.
In addition, T.R. Klein & Company performs "in-house"
meetings and seminars. Depending on the subject matter,
clients are invited to attend.
5. Presentations
In addition to presenting seminars,
T.R. Klein & Company request the opportunity to
present and explain the annual financial statements
to the Board of Directors of your Organization. This
presentation is at no cost to the Organization.
6. Punctual "On-Time"
Service
Its been said, "the number
one reason clients leave accounting firms is lack
of attention or lack of "on-time" service.
Each engagement begins with a planning meeting to
determine the specific needs and timing of the client.
Then these needs are accommodated on time.
7. Standards
T.R. Klein & Company is qualified
to perform engagements under Generally Accepted Auditing
Standards, Generally Accepted Government Auditing
Standards issued by the Comptroller General of the
United States, Office of Management and Budget (OMB)
Circular A-133, "Audits of Institutions of Higher
Education and Other Nonprofit Institutions,"
Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)
Guidelines, and Community Development Association
(CDA) Guidelines.
8. Implementation
T.R. Klein & Company has already
begun to implement Financial Accounting Standards
Board Statements 116 and 117 with respect to contributions
to a Nonprofit Organization and financial statements
of a Nonprofit Organization. The earliest required
implementation is for years beginning after December
15,1994. In other words, for the calendar year 1995
or fiscal years ending in 1996.
9. Fees and Expenses
As explained earlier T.R. Klein
& Company set out to be a different accounting
firm. A firm that attends to your needs. To do this
we cannot be "the cheapest guy in town,"
rather we design fees around the entire client and
have an acute sensitivity to an Organizations
budget.
10. Growth
It has always been an unwritten
policy to grow with our clients. Over our short existence,
we have seen clients grow from under $500,000 to over
$11 million. While this will not be the case for every
client, T.R. Klein & Company is committed to continue
growing to meet the needs and challenges of each of
its client Organizations.
11. AICPA Trainings
T.R. Klein & Company is
active in the American Institute of Certified Public
Accountants providing continuing education to other
accountants throughout the country on the nuances
of not-for profit organizations, including Tips-N-traps
for Not-For-Profit Auditing and Fraud in Government
and Not-For-Profit Environments: What a Steal!
