Thank you all for the lucky # 13 Cruise! It was
grand for all involved. I
know each of us has 100 stories that we heard from
families and of course
the one we all hear every year is that this summer
outing is what families
wait for and depend upon each year.
This year I was told by a mom of a 22 year old with
CP and her 87 year old
grandmother that this is the 10th year they participated
and that it is just
like Disneyland for them! I was with them on Tom
Klein's boat and of course
as always he was sweet and endearing to this family
and very accommodating.
The young woman with CP could not speak but her mom
told us she wanted Tom
to go faster! So he did and she had the widest smile
I have ever seen!
What was even better was the she sound she made when
Tom was forced to slow
down! --- Tom got the message, but had to obey the
law!
I just want to share one
other story with you. It is tragic and yet
uplifting. One of our long time volunteer boaters
came this year with her
teenage nephew and his dad. This young man had a
spinal cord injury last
year in a diving accident. this was the families
first social and
recreational trip out as "a family with a disability"...
it meant the world
to them and showed them it is possible!
This is a true team effort. the committee is outstanding.
CVS, AmeriGroup
and Money One led the way with volunteers and Peter
made coordinating over
40 boats and 300 people seem easy, Mary Jo made the
Captain's Party a
success and all the boaters, marina staff and HarborView
associates make all
the difference. and of course Richard makes the day
a reality! Again,
thank you Safeway for lunch! It was delicious.
Thank you all.. It makes what we do and the hard
work worth the effort!
Thank you so much.. And, Aldo, keep us abreast of
your recovery!
Last but not least is our development staff who
worked endless hours and
without their commitment and enthusiasm there is
no way we could make this
event happen.
We will get together soon!
